Housing Crisis - Reception

Shifts: Monday – Friday : 10:00 – 13:00

Time commitment preference: 1+ mornings a week

Team: HCIS (Housing Crisis Intervention Service)

Task: General reception work, answering the door to clients and welcoming them, establishing why they have come to KCAH, who they need to see and whether offering refreshments is appropriate (& according to how busy we are at the time).

Providing new clients with a registration form and ensuring it is completed to assist the Housing Advisers.

Engaging with clients as appropriate – above all listening to them and passing on client information to the relevant staff member. Never providing advice and always being mindful of confidentiality.

Ensuring relevant HCIS forms are well-stocked.

Entering new cases onto the Lamplight database and filing them.

Location: Shared office with the HCIS team at KCAH main offices.

Additional tasks: Issuing Food Vouchers as required.

Opening the post and filing staff/client post as appropriate.

Answering the telephone in the absence of the “telephone holder” and taking messages.

Environment: We work with a wide range of people, some of whom may be vulnerable, complex, or experiencing trauma. We treat everybody with the same high level of respect and dignity regardless of their situation and presentation.

You are kind, open-minded and non-judgmental.

You have strong interpersonal skills.

You are confident and able to ask questions where necessary.

You are discrete and sensitive to the personal information of others.

You are looking for a great reference on your CV after 6 months of volunteering.
