The Story of Roland *
Roland is a care-leaver. As a child, he was constantly moved from foster home to foster home and in adulthood he struggled heavily with his mental health, neurodiversities, and a deep mistrust of the systems that are designed to help.
He registered with us as a rough sleeper, and we liaised with multiple services, from housing and social care to medical in order to complete the relevant assessments which would ensure his needs were catered for.
Along the way, the combination of an unfortunate set of administrative setbacks and disengagement due to his lack of trust in the system, caused delays which meant that one day he contemplated suicide.
Even in the darkest moments he came back to the office, and through the trusted relationship he’d built with KCAH, we were able to help him endure the waiting and bureaucracy.
His last communication with us read that he’d found stable accommodation, he was receiving adequate benefits and that he no longer needed our support. We are proud of him and hope that he can start to build a happy life.
