The first time someone comes to KCAH, it is often because they have the threat of homelessness hanging over them or they are already in need of shelter and require housing advice. And we do our very best to meet their immediate needs on the day.
But that is only the beginning.
We work with clients on an individual, long term plan to support them on their way towards a life where they can flourish and thrive. Experiencing homelessness should not determine your future. Rather it should be just one of many chapters in the book that is your life, and hopefully a short chapter at that. We provide support that we ourselves would like to receive.
We work closely with other support services to provide a care package which might include the provision of accommodation, access to activities and training opportunities and generally we help clients to explore and realise their strengths, skills and positive qualities.
There is nothing better for us than to help a client towards an independent life and we are proud of our record of providing a pathway out of homelessness for good. A new start. A new beginning.
If you want to help us to help clients build new beginnings, please consider leaving a gift for KCAH in your Will. Even a gift of 1% of your estate (once your family and loved ones have been taken care of) makes a huge difference to us.
If you would like to have a confidential, no-obligation discussion about the potential impact of your gift, please contact Paul Seymour (paul.s@kcah.org.uk / 07915249918), who will be glad to speak to you.
There are 3 types of gift.
A residuary gift: A percentage of the estate after family provisions and debts are settled. This is often the most impactful option as it retains its value against inflation over time.
A pecuniary gift: A specific, fixed sum of money.
A specific gift: A tangible asset, such as property, valuables, or shares.
The Process is simple.
Provide the charity details: Give your solicitor the official charity name (Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness), the registered charity number (1075890), and the registered address (St Peter’s Church Hall, London Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 6QL). Your solicitor will draft a new will or add a ‘Codicil’ to an existing will. A Codicil is a simple legal document that adds a new instruction without the donor needing to rewrite their entire will.
There are also Inheritance Tax Benefits to consider, including:
Any gift left to a UK registered charity is completely exempt from Inheritance Tax.
If a donor chooses to leave at least 10% of their net estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on their remaining estate is reduced from 40% to 36%, which can significantly reduce the tax burden on their family.
Thank you for your support!
