The Story of Clara *
Clara was living with her husband and four children until the divorce. The husband and children moved into temporary accommodation with the council, and Clara returned to her home country to care for her mother.
While there she suffered a mental health breakdown and was hospitalised for several months, losing her identification documents in the process, leaving her with no recourse to public funds in the UK.
On her return to the UK, she was again hospitalised but was soon released and came to us for advice on regaining her documents. We offered her a place to stay at the Winter Night Shelter while we worked on the case.
We referred Clara to one of the private landlords we work with and she accepted a room in a female-only property where we advocated for her in order to improve the living conditions at the property.
Clara visits us regularly for food bank vouchers when unexpected expenses arise.
