The Story of Aliyah *
Aliyah was a British citizen brought up overseas. She saved her money, bought a flight and landed in the UK at the age of 22. Her accommodation had been pre-arranged with someone in the area, and while there was no rent agreement, she began to feel that her landlord was developing expectations of a relationship, and she was becoming uncomfortable.
She registered with the Housing Crisis Drop-in team looking for housing options. We took her details, listened to her story and worked with her to attain recourse to funds.
We helped her register with a GP and complete her benefit claims while she continued to look for work.
We were able to make a referral for a place at an external supported accommodation, which was accepted, and through applying for an advance she was able to pay the first month’s fees up front and move in.
Aliyah showed remarkable bravery and resilience in coming to find us. It is through this and our quick action that she was able to stay off the streets, find a stable place to live and build towards the happy life she hoped for when she left the comfort of her family home.
