The Story of Arthur *
We have known Clive for over 10 years, he first came to us when he was sleeping rough after struggling with an addiction, losing his job, the end of a relationship and a family tragedy, Clive was at his lowest ebb.
First placed in the Access Project (our supported accommodation) we began, together, to rebuild his life. The stability of a 2 year tenancy, along with full-time access to support, with which he engaged whole-heartedly, gave him the space to begin to process the trauma’s and work on his recovery.
At the end of his tenure, we helped him move on to the private rented sector, again an HMO, which presented him with a different set of challenges, namely sharing a property with other’s desperately in need of support they weren’t getting.
From here, we made applications to several housing associations and were successful, Clive moved into what was considered his forever home. He created a routine for himself, a breakfast with unlimited tea refills, a walk, some time in a church and back to his flat. While he continues to struggle with his mental health, his routine gives him a sense of purpose and the fragile stability of his life sustained.
Until this week when he opened his post to an updated service charge bill.
