The Story of Adam *
Adam was made homeless through no fault of his own, it was simply that the landlord wanted to sell the house. He went to the council who, based on his single adult status recommended he work with us. He spent a couple of weeks in the Winter Night Shelter and after a referral to the YMCA was housed for the next 2 years.
But the story doesn’t end there, Adam has a son, he split from the mother of his son very early in the child’s life, but the boy remained his world. He needed to be close to him and create a warm parental relationship.
Going from the privacy and security of his own flat to living in a large hostel had it’s own set of challenges for Adam and the one he found particularly difficult was having his son stay with him, so once his tenancy ran out at the Y he was successfully referred to the Access Project where he again stayed for 2 years, this time feeling more comfortable with his son staying on occasion.
He continued to work, self-employed in IT, throughout his housing challenges, and at each more settled stage the work increased. On leaving the Access Project, Adam secured a self-contained bungalow, still near his son, who now stays over regularly and they work through the trials and tribulations of young teen-hood together.
