The Story of Liam *
Liam had been living in a studio annex in a friends garden, it was self-contained with it’s own access and he had a good relationship with his landlord and their cats. The cats soon adopted Liam and they were happy, he had a job, and a stable life.
Until his landlord decided to move to Spain. He was told to leave the property and without enough time to prepare he was soon homeless. He tried to keep in touch with the neighbour to check on the cats, but reports were not positive, and the stress of his housing situation meant he was unable to sustain his employment.
We were able to offer Liam a bed at the Night Shelter as we worked together on his finances, he accessed a dormant pension and moved into a hotel from where we assisted him to longer term accommodation.
He still struggles with his mental health and is finding certain aspects of a more communal style of living challenging, but we continue to support him to navigate the benefit system and maintain his current tenancy while he looks for work and the next step on his journey.
