The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) have recently released a report titled UK Giving 2026 and it makes for interesting reading…
It won’t come as a surprise that public giving has fallen, down 10% from 2024, and they note that “Individual giving in the UK is undergoing a structural shift, not a short-term dip” with Britain losing around 600,000 donors per year since 2016.
With the state of the world over the previous decade and a small amount of consideration, this is not unexpected news. We live in an environment of uncertainty, with financial crisis following crisis, Brexit, the pandemic, the cost of living, the war in Ukraine and now the war in the Middle East. We are all being squeezed and it is natural to turn our thoughts closer to home.
49% of people who didn’t donate stated they couldn’t afford to, and the trend is showing a rise in unplanned or reactive donations over regular giving, with approximately 2.8m people cancelling a regular donation last year.
The recommendations at the end of the report include a focus on retaining committed supporters, and clear, credible impact reporting, both of which I hope we are already ahead of.
The open rate for this email stands at an average of 50% every week, which is remarkably good for a charity newsletter. I would like to personally thank you for your dedication to our work; by engaging with the stories of the people we help and by keeping us in your minds, you are making a difference.
For those of you who are existing regular donors, thank you for your continued support, and thank you for standing firm in the chaos of the world.
If you are considering a regular donation, rest assured, anything you can give makes a big difference and your every impact moves us closer to achieving our vision: “Everyone in Kingston is in a safe and stable home and is able to build a happy life”.
