The Story of Nigel *

Nigel first came to KCAH after a relationship breakdown with a step-parent, he was working at the time and was concerned he wouldn’t be able to sustain his job if he found himself sleeping rough.

Though we were able to make referrals for him, he found his own solutions at the time and we didn’t hear from him until a few years later, where due to the loss of his job and years of sofa-surfing he needed our help again.

The time between visits had left him with diagnoses of anxiety and depression as well as a challenging physical health condition.

We assisted to access benefits, and moved into a room in our supported accommodation project.

We worked with Nigel to engage with health services for his physical health and to have his childhood ADHD diagnosis, which had lapsed as he reached adulthood, recognised.

His engagement with support was understandably sporadic in his specific set of circumstances and it was by reaching out to a supportive relative that we were able to assist him in rebuilding his support network.

Through a combination of efforts, “Team Nigel” were able to find a suitable move-on option and we remain in contact with him as he progresses on his journey back to health.
