The Story of Arthur *
Arthur came to us after a visit to the council. He knew he was going to be made homeless but due to the regulations in place he was told he would need to come back when he was actually homeless. Looking to avoid that day they recommended he come to us.
After registration we went to work and found him a place to stay on the day. He moved in that evening. But that’s not where the story ends.
Arthur had worked his entire life, paid his bills and used whatever was left over to enjoy his life, however the stress of instability and the trauma of a hurried eviction meant that maintaining employment became impossible.
We supported him to navigate the benefit system, including a strenuous review as the system changed, and were finally able to assist him onto the housing register. As a man in his 60s, a place in sheltered accommodation became available and through our knowledge and expertise we assisted him to secure a permanent studio flat.
We supplied him with one of our new home starter packs, helped him access the crisis and resilience fund, and he is in the process of furnishing his property. Once settled he intends to retrain at college and hopes to get back into work.
