The Story of Fatima *

Fatima came to us after a marriage breakdown. She worked in catering and had a steady job. She had been happy in her marriage and she and her husband wanted to build a family together.

After trying for a while it became clear that the path to parenthood would not be simple and they decided to try IVF. With good relationships in her home country where IVF is more affordable, she travelled back and spent all of her savings trying to get pregnant.

Sadly, the IVF didn’t work and she returned home to her husband. They still wanted a family and she agreed to leave her job and concentrate on pregnancy. The stress of the process was a weight on their relationship and her husband became distant to the point that one day he changed the locks.

Fatima was left with no savings, no job, no marriage and no home.

We helped her to access essential benefits and with a room available in one of the female-only Access Project properties, we were able to offer her a place to live and rebuild, which she accepted. Now, with daily support, we are working with her to find a more permanent housing solution.
