The Story of Bruce *
We have known Bruce for many years. He is an intelligent man with the ability to navigate life on the streets using his wits and charm. Bruce also has a tendency to binge drink.
He has been sober for months at a time, during which he quickly works to meaningfully engage with services that offer support to people, he is creative and talented.
He has also been through extended periods of heavy drinking where his mental and physical health has suffered greatly. During these times he has found himself in danger, been assaulted, robbed and defrauded.
Bruce has been housed on numerous occasions, each time sustained until the pattern of drinking begins again and his self-care declines.
We work with Bruce almost weekly, providing him with help to maintain his current tenancy through periods of both sobriety and drinking. Our door is always open and we hope that through the safe, sober space we hold for him his drive to help others will allow him to help himself.
