'How can I Raise Awareness?'
1. Organise an Awareness Event ๐ค๐ฌ
Host a talk, film screening, or Q&A session with a KCAH representative to educate people on local homelessness issues. Schools can incorporate this into assemblies, workplaces can dedicate a meeting or fundraising day to KCAH; places of worship can dedicate a service or prayers session to people in Kingston experiencing homelessless.
For support with your awareness event or to find out if a KCAH representative can attend, contact Dan today!
2. Share Stories & Facts on Social Media ๐ฑ๐ข
Use platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to share personal stories, stats, and KCAH’s updates using #SpringIntoAction. Encourage others to repost and engage in discussions.
3. Display Posters & Leaflets ๐๐ก
Put up KCAH posters or leaflets in churches, places of worship, cafés, community centers, schools, and workplaces. Even a noticeboard at a gym, supermarket, or library can reach new people. To discuss what type of materials would work best in your setting and to request those: contact Dan today.
4. Write to Local Media โ๏ธ๐ฐ
Send letters or articles to local newspapers, radio stations, and community newsletters to highlight homelessness issues and promote KCAH’s work. Businesses can also feature KCAH in their internal communications.
5. Start Conversations & Challenge Myths ๐ฃ๏ธ๐ก
Talk to friends, colleagues, and church members about homelessness. Many people don’t realise how common or complex the issue is. Share real stories to challenge stereotypes and encourage action.
Contact Dan who can send you information and case studies.
6. Organise a Community Action Day ๐ค๐ช
Arrange a local event such as a benefit concert, flower and plant sale, community meal, charity walk/fun run or similar...
'How Can I Raise Funds?'
1. Easter Egg Hunt with a Cause ๐ฅ๐ฐ
Host a charity Easter egg hunt where entry fees support KCAH. Include a ‘golden egg’ with a special prize and free treats and chocolate for the children while providing a display board and other materials to engage their parents and inform them about local issues.
2. Easter Bake Sale or Coffee Morning ๐ฐโ
Host a bake sale featuring Easter and spring-themed treats like hot cross buns, cupcakes, or lemon drizzle cake. Pair it with a coffee morning at your place of worship, school, workplace or similar to raise funds and awareness.
3. Sponsored Spring Walk or Nature Challenge ๐ถโ๏ธ๐ผ
Organise a sponsored walk, hike, or nature trail event where participants get donations for completing a set distance. Add a ‘flower spotting’ challenge to make it fun for families.
4. Plant & Grow for KCAH ๐ฑ๐ธ
Sell spring flowers, herbs, or vegetable seedlings, with proceeds going to KCAH. Schools, churches, and workplaces can host planting days where people donate to plant a flower in a community garden.
5. Spring Clean for a Cause ๐งน๐
Encourage people to declutter their homes and hold a charity yard sale or car boot sale, donating proceeds to KCAH. Alternatively, encourage and enable young people to offer ‘spring cleaning services’ such as gardening, car washing and window cleaning while dedicating half or more of their earnings to KCAH to help local people in need of housing.
6. Spring Fashion Swap or Preloved Sale ๐โป๏ธ
Encourage sustainable fashion by holding a spring clothes swap or preloved sale. People can donate decent quality used clothing and buy ‘new-to-them’ outfits, with proceeds supporting KCAH.
